2018 BET Awards Full Show

The 2018 BET Award were handed out Sunday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The show, which honors artists, actors and athletes across 20 categories, also featured tributes to Prince by a slew of artists, including Jennifer Hudson and Stevie Wonder, and a surprise performance by Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar. BET Awards Pay Tribute to Prince With The Roots, Stevie Wonder, Maxwell, Erykah Badu, Sheila E. and More. In addition, Grey’s Anatomy star Jesse Williams was given the Humanitarian Award, delivering a passionate Black Lives Matter speech, while Samuel L. Jackson received the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The BET Awards were established in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television network to celebrate African Americans and other minorities in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment over the past year. The awards are presented annually, and are broadcast live on BET. The annual presentation ceremony features performances by artists, and some of the awards of more popular interest are presented in a televised ceremony.

The BET Award Trophy was inspired by three words - aspire, ascend, achieve. The BET Award Trophy was designed by artist/sculptor Carlos "Mare139" Rodriguez. OutKast won the first BET award. In 2007, Society Awards, the New York firm who manufacturers the award, enhanced the quality of the trophy design using plated steel and black crystal.

The 2018 “BET Awards” will premiere around the world on BET’s international network. It will air in the UK on Tuesday, June 28th at 9:00pm BST, in Africa on Tuesday, June 28th at 7:00pm CAT, and in France on Wednesday, June 29th at 9:00pm CEST

BET Awards 2018

2018 BET Experience doesn’t kick off for another month, but the network has already struck a deal to ensure it sticks around for three more years. BET and Anschutz Entertainment Group have renewed their deal to continue the multi-day festival through 2018, a representative for the festival told The Times on Thursday.

In 2018 the Black Entertainment Television network and AEG parterned to transform its annual awards show into a three-day destination festival in Los Angeles. AEG and promoter Goldenvoice, a division of AEG Live, helped curate a bill of top-tier R&B, soul and hip-hop artists.

The festival pairs headlining concerts with late-night shows, wellness seminars, celebrity panels, new artist showcases, a film festival and a free expo along with a number other events at which revolve around the awards show telecast.

Earlier this year, BET announced that this year’s festival, its third, would expand to four dates.

Set for June 25-28, comedian Kevin Hart will open the festival with a standup show at Staples Center. Nicki Minaj follows, heading a lineup that includes Ne-Yo and rising acts Tinashe and Rae Sremmurd. Ice Cube, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg and Schoolboy Q lead a hip-hop-focused bill for the third night of shows at Staples.

R&B group Bell Biv DeVoe and hip-hop pioneer Doug E. Fresh will also appear in the first of a string of late-night shows at Club Nokia. The group will follow Hart’s standup gig, R&B sensation Miguel will follow Minaj, and the Roots return for another guest-filled jam session after the rap showcase. The hip-hop band will pay tribute to late producer and rapper J Dilla in a set also featuring Erykah Badu and other surprise performers.

The Los Angeles Convention Center will again host the festival’s immersive free fan expo during the weekend.

Monae will bring her Wonderland collective for a showcase. West Coast talents such as Vince Staples, Cypress Hill and Too Short will anchor another. Free showcases focused on rising, Latino and Caribbean acts are also planned. The expo also offers a celebrity basketball game, sneaker convention and a kids area.

Single-day Staples Center show tickets start at $59.50, with three-day packages starting at $169.50. Club Nokia ticket prices vary by artist. VIP packages, which include a ticket to the award show, range from $1,095 to $4,395.

2018 BET Awards Fashion

It's finally time for the 2018 BET Awards and some of your favorite celebrities are arriving at the annual show to celebrate mass achievement in black entertainment.

In addition to the highly anticipated musical tribute to Prince, stars including Usher, Alicia Keys and Future are scheduled to perform on stage at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

Plus, a slew of familiar faces including Taraji P. Henson, Gabrielle Union and Snoop Dogg will present some of the biggest awards of the night.

Before the show begins at 8 p.m. sharp, we're taking a look at the fun, wild and unpredictable red carpet fashion at this year's show. Based on what we've seen so far in our gallery below, we're in for one glitzy show.

2018 BET Awards Performances

We can always rely on Beyonce to bring the fierce to any proceedings and she did just that at last night's BET Awards 2018.
The pop superstar rocked the stage in a blinged up bodysuit by British designer Julien Macdonald and she's giving us plenty of inspiration for our next big night out. Bodysuits have been a major trend for a while now but we love this more glammed up take.

And who better to create a glitzy look like this than Macdonald? The designer is beloved for his super sexy, super slinky and super sparkly collections and Queen B's bodysuit even features actual Swarovski crystals.
It was custom made so is unavailable to buy online but that doesn't mean you can't steal Bey's style. Check out our pick of embellished beauties below from the likes of Amen, NastyGal and True Decadance. Style with high waist denim shorts for a cool girl festival vibe or make it ladylike with a full midi skirt.

The 34-year-old beauty looked absolutely fantastic in a black sequined bodysuit as she was joined by Kendrick Lamar for the high-energy display.
It had been previously unclear if she would perform as she had the second most nominations of the night with five.
Though she did win a majority of those awards, she was unable to accept them as her mother Tina Knowles took the stage twice throughout the night to pick up Beyonce's new trophies.

The 62-year-old mother picked-up the gongs for Video Of The Year and the Coca-Cola Viewers' Choice Award as she explained her daughter had to hop on a private jet for a concert in London.
While accepting one of the biggest awards of the night, the matriarch was inspired by the tributes throughout the night as she talked about the big names that the entertainment industry lost in 2018 as she urged everyone to enjoy the current stars while they are still putting their art out there.
Tina said it was important to let artists feel the appreciation while they are living as she elaborated: 'Let's let them smell the flowers while they are alive.'

BET Award 2018 Athlete of the Year

The nominees and winners for the BET Award for Best Female Athlete & Male Athlete. Serena Williams holds the record for most wins in the Female Athlete category with 8 wins, she also holds the record for the most nominations, being nominated every year since the awards inception. LeBron James holds the records with 5 wins for Male Athlete. Kobe Bryant comes in second place with 3 awards. The Best Male Athlete has always been a basketball player until Michael Vick won it in 2011.

Some of the nominations have brought up some controversy. Reggie Bush was nominated for the award twice, in 2007 and 2009, despite putting up average numbers for a player at his position in both those seasons. In both years, he was nominated among athletes who were considered the best of the best in their sports, which upset some sports fans, as Bush has not accomplished enough to be in the same list as them.

BET Award 2018 Best Actor & Actress

The BET Awards for Best Actor & Actress are awarded to actors and actresses from both television and film. Some nominees have been nominated based on their performances in multiple bodies of work within the eligibility period. 8 Academy Award-Winning Actors/Actress (Jennifer Hudson, Cuba Gooding Jr., Forest Whitaker,Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Mo'Nique, Jamie Foxx & Halle Berry), and 11 Academy Award nominated Actors/Actress (Gabourey Sidibe, Queen Latifah,Taraji P. Henson, Samuel L. Jackson, Terrence Howard, Alfre Woodard, Angela Bassett, Don Cheadle, Will Smith, Viola Davis & Eddie Murphy) have earned BET Best Actor & Actress nominations and/or wins.

This list also has 10 singer/rappers-turned-actors (Beyoncé, Aaliyah, Common, Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson, Will Smith, Ludacris, Jill Scott, Jamal Woolard &Mos Def) nominated in these categories.

BET Award 2018 Best New Artist

The BET Award for Best New Artist is given to an artist who made their debut the previous or same year of the awards ceremony. A former group member can be nominated for the award if they have made their solo debut. For example, Omarion was a member of the hip hop quartet B2K from 2001 until 2004 and B2K had already been nominated for a BET Award for Best New Artist in 2002. Despite this, Omarion was nominated for the category in 2005 because he made his solo debut in the same year. Controversy arose when Jennifer Hudson won the award in 2007 even though her only solo release at the time was a single of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going"; her first album was scheduled for release in October 2007. Willow Smith is the youngest person to be nominated for this award. Sam Smith is so far the only Caucasian artist to have won the award, winning it in 2016.

BET Award 2018 Best Group

The BET Award for Best Group is given to the overall best R&B, hip hop, or gospel group who has released an album the previous or same year. As of 2000, Mary Mary has been the only gospel group to be nominated for this award. A group can be a duo (Gnarls Barkley, Mary Mary, New Boyz) or have at least 3 members (Pretty Ricky, Destiny's Child). Mary Mary has received the most nominations ever for the BET Award for Best Group, having five each.

3. N.E.R.D., The Black Eyed Peas, The Clipse, Day26, Gnarls Barkley, Lil' Jon & The Eastside Boyz & B2K - 2 nominations

BET Award 2018 Best R&B Artists

The BET Awards for Best R&B/Pop Artist is split between the overall best male and female contemporary R&B and soul singers who have released an album the previous or same year. As of 2016, Beyoncé has won the most BET Awards for Best Female R&B Artist with six wins. Also, as of 2016, Chris Brown has won the most BET Awards for Best Male R&B Artist with four wins. Robin Thicke and Justin Timberlake are the only caucasian artists to be nominated for this award.

BET Award 2018 Best Gospel Artists

The BET Award for Best Gospel Artist is given to an urban contemporary gospel artist. Urban/contemporary gospel is a modern form of Christian music that expresses either personal or a communal belief regarding Christian life, as well as to give a Christian alternative to mainstream secular music. Musically, it follows the trends in secular urban contemporary music. Urban/contemporary gospel is a recent subgenre of gospel music.Christian hip hop is a subtype of urban/contemporary gospel music.

Although the style developed gradually, early forms are generally dated to the 1970s, and the genre was well established by the end of the 1980s. The radio format is marketed primarily to young African-American adults.

BET Award 2018 Best Hip-Hop Artists

The "BET Award for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist" and "Best Female Hip-Hop Artist" are awards given to honor the outstanding achievements artists have made in Hip hop every year. The winner is determined based on sales and overall quality of content released within the eligibility period. In 2007 there was no award given for "Best Female Hip-Hop Artist", there was only the "BET Award for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist" which was renamed the gender-neutral title of "BET Award for Best Hip-Hop Artist". This was due to a lack of material from female rappers as a collective during the eligibility period.

T.I., Kanye West, Jay-Z, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar are the only rappers to win the "Best Male Hip-Hop Artist" more than once; Jay-Z, T.I., and Kendrick Lamar have each won twice and Kanye West and Drake have each won three times. T.I. is the only rapper to win the award consecutively, in 2006 and 2007. For "Best Female Hip-Hop Artist", only Missy Elliot and Nicki Minaj have attained multiple victories, both winning the award back to back, with Elliot winning from 2003 to 2005and Minaj winning from 2010 to 2016, respectively. Minaj is the first and only rapper to win "Best Hip-Hop Artist", for both male and females, 6 years in a row consecutively.

Welcome to 2018, when everyone’s afraid of superintelligent machines taking over the world and no one can run a half-decent live stream.

Last month, NBC streamed the Super Bowl for free to anyone who wanted to watch. The execution was pretty terrible. But at least it was a noble effort.

On Sunday night, ABC streamed the BET Awards—but only to people who were already paying for cable, and only if they happened to live in one of the eight U.S. cities in which ABC owns and operates a local station. Somehow, despite the tightly restricted audience, ABC’s execution was even worse.

BET Awards 2018 Time

Tonight is the 2018 BET Awards and the show is hosted by Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, who both star in the hit show Black-ish. Presenters include, but are not limited to Laverne Cox, Zendaya, Michael B. Jordan, Kelly Rowland, DeSean Jackson, Brandy, and Donald Glover.
